Murdering the Mortgage June 2012

It's our one year mortgage anniversary!

So after 12 months, we have managed to pay down $13316.48.  Only $76,683 to go!

At this rate we will be mortgage free in 8 years and 1 month without doubling up as we often do.  I will be slowing by extra payments for the next couple of months due to my coming parental leave.  I will need to see if we can double up as the next few months progress.

  1. Hey congrats. That's a pretty small mortgage! I take it that you were smart and saved up a large downpayment, or bought an inexpensive house, or both. Congrats on the impending parental leave, too! I guess great minds think alike lol.

  2. Well, we've been at this home game a little while now. We bought our first townhouse back in 2000. We have traded up to our third house last year.
We have always had paying down the mortgage as fast as possible in mind over the years. It's been a balancing act between that and saving for retirement like crazy.
If I had it to do over, I should have been a bit more aggressive with how expensive a house I bought(the second). Considering how the market has gone.
Ah looking in the rear view mirror considering finances...

Thanks, I'm getting excited now with the arrival fast approaching.
